  • by

There are many positive benefits of maintaining a healthy body weight. And that should be reason enough for us to pursue that goal. But I think we should be more intense about our weight goals. I think we should be addicted to maintaining our healthy weight. So, that we can be naturally high on life, and enjoy life to the fullest. I will give my reasons below, but let’s define what is healthy weight first.

The generally accepted way to calculate Healthy weight is BMI (Body Mass Index). It is calculated from our height and weight. BMI is a good gauge for estimating our body fat and can be a good indicator to assess our risk for various diseases that can occur with high body fat. The different BMI categories are given below:

BMI Categories:
Underweight= BMI of less than 18.5
Normal weight= 18.5 to 24.9
Overweight= 25 to 29.9
Obesity= BMI of 30.0 or greater

We should strive or as I suggested be addicted to maintaining our weight in the “Normal Weight” BMI category. And my reasons are given below:

  1. Combats disease

    Healthy body weight reduces your risk of developing serious body fat related health problems like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, gallstones, high blood pressure, breathing problems, and certain types of cancers.

    It also keeps your immune system in better shape protecting you from an environment laden with various harmful forms of bacteria, virus, etc.

    One of the main reasons I started managing my weight is my two-year-old. I want to be there when she grows up and be part of the wonderful things that she will do in her life. Obesity related issues is a major concern all around the world. Even our young ones are getting diabetes, cholesterol, and other diseases at a very early age.

    I believe, if I can be an example to my little one, my family and friends by eating healthy, exercising, adopting healthy habits, I will be doing my bit to reduce this obesity epidemic. And so can you.
